NCCR Robotics Annual Retreat

Date/Time
Date(s) - 08/03/2018 - 09/03/2018
All Day

The 2018 NCCR Robotics Annual Retreat (Bern, 8-9th March) was very successful, not only in bringing the community together but in achieving its targets in preparation for the next phase and presenting an effective and diversified agenda. Participation to the event was particularly high this year.

On 8th March, the event, opened with a talk on Equal Opportunity by Prof. Dr. Marianne Schmid Mast, Professor at University of Lausanne, her talk coincided with the International Women’s Rights day and it addressed the subject of unconscious gender bias. The programme followed with Prof. Dr. Lutz Nolte from Innosuisse, who covered different aspects of the Swiss entrepreneurship support system. Each subject captivated the audience raising discussions and awareness amongst the community.

The agenda continued with a series of internal meetings consisting of engaging sessions that encouraged cross-Grand Challenge collaborations, with open participation from all members.

The next day, a group of PhDs and Postdocs were involved in a challenging Hackathon programming the Thymio robots to find their way autonomously through a labyrinth. The results of the Hackathon were presented at the end of the day. In parallel, a further series of internal meetings took place in order to discuss scientific and structural plans of phase 3.

We would like to thank the external speakers and the NCCR Robotics community for their active participation and contribution to this year’s Annual Retreat. We look forward to the next community gathering for our Site Visit (Bern, 18-19th October).
