Tobi Delbruck studied physics and applied math as an undergraduate in San Diego and then Computation in Neural Systems as a graduate student at Caltech. He joined INI in 1998 and has been working on developing neuromorphic vision sensors for real-world applications in machine vision. Together with doctoral student Patrick Lichtsteiner, he achieved a breakthrough with the first highly functional Dynamic Vision Sensor event-based silicon retina in 2006. Since then, the Sensors group has been evolving this technology and exploring its manifold applications in event-driven vision. Since 2011 his group has been developing deep learning theory and hardware accelerators. Within NCCR Robotics he works on vision in collaborative mobile robots.
